A lakeside celebration strung with warm lights at dusk

Winter · December 2023

Aditi & Vikram

Jagmandir Island, Udaipur, Rajasthan

Aditi and Vikram both grew up in Udaipur, so coming home to marry by the lake was less a decision than an inevitability. Our job was mostly to get out of the lake's way.

We built the four days around the water: a boat baraat across Lake Pichola, a mandap of marigold and mogra on the ghat, the pheras at first light when the palace turns gold. Three hundred and fifty guests, four functions, one thunderstorm we had a plan for — and the whole point of all of it was two families becoming one over endless cups of chai.

By the last vidaai nobody was sitting on their own side of the family any more. Some weddings you design from nothing; this one, you simply protect.

They planned three hundred and fifty people across four days, and somehow it felt like a house party.Aditi & Vikram
