A large celebration mid-toast under warm light

Winter · February 2024

Simran & Jai

A palace hotel, Chandigarh, Punjab

Simran and Jai wanted the big, golden Punjabi wedding done with taste — not turned down a notch. We took them at their word and then kept it tasteful at full volume.

A jaago at midnight, a baraat on a white horse behind a moving wall of dhol, an anand karaj at the gurudwara at first light, and a reception that simply refused to end. Marigold on every surface, phulkari over every chair, four hundred and fifty plates of food and not one of them late.

It was our largest wedding of the year and, against the odds, one of the calmest to run — because the plan had been budding quietly for eight months before anyone heard a single dhol.

They warned us a Punjabi wedding can't be elegant. Ours was — and still the loudest in the city.Simran & Jai
